Andrew's good news!

Thanks for all the prayers for healing of Andrew's leg, they worked!  Our little boy got his cast off today!  The x-ray of his leg looked great, the bone healed nice and straight and he doesn't have any follow-ups with the orthopaedic doctor.  Hooray for Andy!  The doctor said he can walk whenever he is ready.  It will take some time for his muscles to get back into shape so he may limp on that leg for a little while.  His leg looks good, a little dry skin and that's about it.

Andrew did not care for the saw which cuts off the cast or the x-ray or the elevator ride to get there (he hates elevators).  By the time we were done with all of that, he was spent from all the crying.  He just laid in my arms, exhausted.  He perked up quickly and has been in a good mood.  We can't wait to give him a real bath, I think that is what he missed the most.  Joe and I will not miss the cast, we've been bumped and banged with it enough.  Andrew was 18 months old on Sept. 23 so he is the bionic boy between surgery and a cast all by the age of 1.5 years old.

 A couple of cute kid quotes:
1.  I overheard the boys playing the other day with their stuffed animals driving around the house on carts.  Zack said, "no, you can't go that way.  It's raining too much and the road is closed."  Zack asks me everywhere we go if the road will be open or not.  Not a bad question considering many roads are still closed in the county where he goes to school. We're okay around us here.

2.  George was talking about numbers one day and that a number with 16 zeros would be a LOT of zeros.  He said, "you would have to put all those zeros in a bucket to carry them."

A natural disaster certainly helps you remember to appreciate all the "little" things in life.  The little things we are thankful for this week:
1.  School being open!
2.  The wonderful routine of getting ready for school.
3.  Making school lunch.
4.  Washing school uniforms and not overflowing the septic tank.  (Are you noticing a theme here?)
5.  Making meals without having to boil water to prepare the food.  (Our boil water advisory was lifted on Friday afternoon). 
6.  Our family and home all being safe and dry.  We're seeing lots of dumpsters sitting on driveways being filled up with stuff ruined by the floods.
