Firsts this week

We had a couple of firsts this week. Topping the list is Andrew got his first haircut at the age of 14 months. I know some may argue he barely has any hair but he actually does have quite a bit. It is just so light you can't see it! It was starting to hang over his collar (see picture) so that means Daddy took him to the barber along with the rest of the crew. As you can see, he was quite excited before we left the house.

Andrew was a little nervous once we got there but he sat still and did a great job. Now that we have four heads going there, we're keeping this barber in business. After Andrew was born, the barber said, "y'know, the fifth one's free". Somehow I have a feeling that the next one will always be the free one. :)

Our other first is we picked up our first "new to us" pop-up camper trailer. Or as it is known in this house, the tent on wheels. We bought it from friends who are being moved to Japan with Caterpillar. Joe drove to their house in North Carolina to pick it up last Saturday. It is about 11 years old and in great condition. The kids are thrilled and can't wait to use it. I'm thrilled about the A/C and the storage. Joe just loves the whole thing. We're going to take it to the Swayne family reunion in Arkansas this weekend so we'll put it straight to work. We loaded it up today with our gear. Joe and I decided it seemed like we had lots of camping gear until we put it in the camper. It holds lots of stuff!
One other interesting tidbit, our tent on wheels has a tag on the side from the dealer where it was probably originally bought. It is from a camper dealer in Eldridge, Iowa. For those of you that don't know, Eldridge, Iowa is a small town that I lived in from ages 4 - 13. Small world, eh?

My favorite kid quote this week is from George. Lately whenever he looks outside and sees an "am-a-yawl" (animal) in the yard, he says, "I'm going to chase it!" We get squirrels, ducks, cats, and geese in the yard so when we're outside, he takes off chasing the animals. Yesterday I saw a squirrel in the front yard and I said, "George, there's a squirrel. Are you going to chase it?" He said, "No Mommy, squirrels are fast!" Apparently he's learning what he can and can't run down.

I've also posted a favorite picture. "Speak No Evil, Hear No Evil, See No Evil". Isn't this the best Mother's Day picture ever?
