Gentlemen, start your engines! Our two Cub Scouts, Zack and George, had a fun morning on Saturday driving indoor go karts and learning about racing. The event was hosted by Pole Position Raceway for the scouts as part of the Cub Scout Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (S.T.E.M.) program. Participants earned several requirements towards their NOVA badge. They did experiments to learn about friction and g-force, learned about racing safety and tires and the highlight was racing on an indoor go kart track!

George got out there and went for it. He was fast and not afraid to pass people. He had a little trouble with steering and hit the wall a few times in the turns. Both boys loved it.

Andy's question when we got home was if you can go there to practice to learn how to be a real race car driver. Oh my, look out!

The boys entered their cars in the Pinewood Derby but weren't there to see them race. We were at the Powers family Christmas party in Des Moines. This was Zack's last year in the derby. He graduates from Cub Scouts in another week and then can move up to Boy Scouts.

No winning cars this year but always fun to make them. Andy is already planning his car for the 2015 Pinewood Derby.
