Week of Firsts

A week of firsts for the Swayne boys:  Zack got his first pair of glasses, the first day of school, George's first ever soccer game.

Zack is doing super with his new glasses, no complaints.  He is taking it all in stride.  We picked them up on Wed. and he said, "wow, everything is more clear."
1st day on Thursday (Zack was about to sneeze so no smile in this picture but it was the best one I got).  Zack was ready to go and looking forward to seeing his friends. Andy had pre-k3 orientation on Thursday and his first "full" day (3 hours) is Tuesday.  He went in with no fussing and actually told me a few things about his classroom on the way home.  He just keeps checking to make sure I am coming back for him.  Andy will ask, "I go to school and then you pick me up, right Mommy?"
Showing off their new backpacks
The students meet in the gym the first day and find their teacher.  After the blessings from Father Denny, each grade is dismissed, starting with kindergarten.  George is ready to go at the front of the line!
Zack heading to third grade!
George after school waving goodbye to his teacher.  He said his first day was "super good!"  Music to my ears. Both boys are settling in and enjoying these first days.  My favorite George story was the night before school started.  We were reading the book "The Night Before Kindergarten" and it said something about the kids being excited and a little bit scared.  He said, "I'm not scared!"  Then later it was talking about the moms being sad.  I told him I was going to miss him while he was at school all day.  To which he replied, "Of course!"
George at his first soccer game.  He told me he didn't need any sunscreen for his legs.  He was right.  They do a really nice kick-off event for the Pre-K/K soccer teams.  They have a little tournament where each team plays two games.  They also set-up two bounce houses, a swings ride, sno-cone machine, a clown making ballon animals, face painting and they cook hot dogs and serve chips and drinks, all for free.  It was storming at 9 a.m. when George's first game was scheduled but it cleared out by 11 a.m. and they still got everything in.
Waiting for the opening kick-off
Taking a break on the sidelines
Playing goalie.  He did a good job as goalie, maybe he has been watching Zack at his games after all. He told me, "they scored two goals but I got 6 blocks!"
Good game, good game, good game.  Are all those little guys cute or what?
