Snow Days

Zack thinks living in Missouri is pretty cool, we're on our 4th snow day since school started on Jan. 3.  We're running out of hot chocolate, referred to as warm chocolate in our house, and mini-marshmallows.
We survived "the big one" that came through on Tuesday.  We were in the "pink" part of the radar. It sleeted all day from at least 4 a.m. until about 5 p.m. and then it changed over to snow.  We were all home for the day, including Joe.  The snow stopped overnight and Joe was able to get to work on Wed.  We recently invested in new all-weather tires for both of our vehicles.  After driving to work Wed., Joe said the tires are "awesome!".  School was out on Wed. too and a late start today.  Zack had to get out of the van on the wrong side in car line since the van door was still frozen shut on the passenger side.

View from our front door Wed. morning

Some areas just 30 miles west of us got over 20 inches of snow.  My parents and sister in the Chicago area are socked in with 17+ inches of snow and drifting.  They literally could not get out the front door until late on Wed.  We were charging up everything we could charge on Monday night since there was concern about power outages....cell phones, the DS, my laptop and my favorite Christmas present this year.....the Kindle.  The electronic book reader from Amazon.  I love my Kindle!!

Tough day to be a bird
We went to Des Moines last weekend for the Powers' family (my mom's side) Christmas party.  It was the "54 days of Christmas" as George called it.  It was tough to get the party in this year between Christmas and New Year's so we did it later.  We had a great time seeing "all the people we don't know", as George also says, including Grandma and Grandpa Powers.  I'm one of their 15 grandkids and we have 17 great-grandkids between us.  50+ when we all get together, quite a crew.  Now that we live closer, hopefully George will think these are "all the people we do know" soon.

We also visited my grandma Scherbring (my dad's mom) on Sunday.  She will be 90 this month.  Lookin' good Grandma!
We love you Grandma Great!

  1. Nice update, Geek! Great pictures too! I'm sure Grandma S. was "tickled pink" as she always says about your visit with her. I'm glad we made it to IA and back before the BIG Blizzard! Love, Dude
