Which way to the zoo?

The week my mom and dad came to visit in May, the boys had the day off from school on that Friday.  We took advantage of the nice weather and went to the Saint Louis Zoo for the day.  We did some of the "extras" this trip, including the train, sting ray pool and the children's zoo.  This zoo is very well done and the grounds are beautiful.

Zack was our map man for the day.  He planned our route and led us through the zoo.  He even used the train as a way to get from once place to the other, not just for a scenic ride.  (I walked to meet them with Mary in the stroller).  It was neat to watch him figuring it out. We ate our picnic lunch in the bird garden near a creek with rushing water and big cranes wandering around.  It was a lovely place to enjoy our lunch and something we'll remember for next time.  Nice navigating work Zack!

The boys with Papaw (in the flag hat) checking out the sting ray pool.  Zack and George eventually got brave enough to put their hands in and touch the sting rays.  One nipped at George because someone next to George was feeding the sting rays and it thought George had food too.  That surprised him!

Mary says, "hey, where's my ice cream?"

Andy, George and Zack.  George and Zack were enjoying their first ever ice cream cones.  I guess we always get them cups so they were tickled to eat cones.  They didn't get tooo messy.

It was a warm enough to play in the fountains so the kids stripped down to their shorts and went for it.  What fun!  It was our last stop for the day so they just dried off as best they could and we headed out to the car.

  1. Another great update. Wow, you have been a busy mommy. We definitely have to come down to visit for a long weekend to take advantage of all the great things to do in St. Louis.

Henry's already had a couple of his own ice cream cones (mini ones) so I guess he has had more practice then his older cousins!

Andy's expression in the pic after playing in the fountains is great! That's a nice pic of you and Mom too.
